    Description

OSAGE ORANGE SAWDUST FOR NATURAL DYING OF FIBERS AND CLOTH, ETC. - 6 OZ
Each Package contains at least 6 Ounces of Fresh Saw Dust!
The Osage Orange Tree was named after the Osage Indians
of Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. These North
American Indians used the inner wood of the trunk to
to obtain a deep golden yellow dye for staining wood and skins.
This strong tree with its bright orange fruit has spread from the the
Red River Valley of Oklahaoma to the grain belts of Kansas.
When extracting, do not use too much water. Just cover the plant material with enough water
to draw out off all of the color without boiling it dry. Simmer the
osage at 185F for 20 minutes. Filter out the
dye water and set aside. Repeat this prodedure two more
times with fresh water for a total of three
extractions. Combine all extractions prior to dyeing. The used
plant material cn be set aside for composting.
    1. Shavings - Dark Color: Use two pounds of fiber per five ounces
